Founded in 2003 by Court Lorenzini, Tom Gonser, and Eric Ranft, DocuSign was the gateway to simple and scalable document signing for organizations around the world. DocuSign’s e-signature technology has enabled individuals to sign documents across different devices, eliminating the need to fax, print, return, and repeat. It has millions of users in more than 180 countries and continues to expand as a l business management software.
“We started DocuSign because we wanted to fundamentally change the way business transactions happen.” –Tom Gonser, CSO
The founders created the foundation for DocuSign by meeting with potential customers and asking them for the “recipe” to an e-signature software they would use. They found out that what their target customers wanted was something user-friendly, simple to use, legally binding, and flexible to fit the needs of the individual.
We can see this flexibility just by taking a look at the industries DocuSign serves—from insurance to education, to life science, to nonprofits.
By working directly with their customers, Lorenzini, Gonser, and Ranft were able to create something that would truly be useful, setting the foundation for where they are today with DocuSign Agreement Cloud. This platform has multiple applications and hundreds of integrations and APIs to serve as a business contract suite.
The need for enhanced collaboration
Part of company expansion involves finding ways to stay connected, whether that be in office, remote, or hybrid. Jen Zagofsky, senior director on the program management team at DocuSign, knew that she needed to search for ways to increase visibility, collaboration, and efficiency among their national offices located in Chicago, San Francisco, and Seattle.
These teams began adopting a Scaled Agile Framework, which is a framework to help companies deliver high-quality products and services without compromising adaptability to change. The one issue with the Scaled Agile Framework was that it required everyone to be in the same physical location.
“We would be in there all day, overwhelmed by this giant poster chart and simply trying to keep everyone sane until the end of the day,” said Kunal Arora, senior program manager at DocuSign.
The power of Lucidchart
As Zagofsky set out on her quest to find a collaboration tool that would fit DocuSign’s needs, she found it difficult to find one that was both cloud-based and offered parameters. After doing her due diligence, she eventually found Lucidchart.
Upon creating her free account, she decided that the search was over. She found what she and her teams were looking for: accessibility and ease-of-use.
"That’s what makes Lucidchart great, it’s real-time, and it’s in the cloud. Three teams can be updating it at once.”–Zagofsky
Lucidchart enabled DocuSign’s teams to work together, in real time, from different physical locations. Specifically, Zagofsky created a Lucidchart document with all of the teams and sprint dates. Then, team members were able to individually brainstorm and ideate their projects and add them to the document. This allowed for collaboration from different time zones.
Additionally, Lucidchart has helped the DocuSign teams to improve efficiency and collaboration. Here are just a few ways that DocuSign has used Lucidchart to do this:
- Daily check-ins
- Global meetings
- Delivering quarterly deliverables
